Acceleration permits a very small number of high ability students – the outstanding and exceptional – to accelerate beyond their enrolment cohort into a higher cohort.
At LJBC, acceleration is an available educational alternative if based on a comprehensive assessment of the readiness of the individual students and their attainment of defined outcomes
In order to identify students for the Academic Talent Program, we do not rely on a single method of identification, but a wide net is cast by the use of multiple criteria and the gathering of as much information as resources will allow.
The following identification criteria are used:
Standardised tests of intellectual potential
Tests of academic achievement
State wide literacy and numeracy tests
Self and peer nomination
Expression of interest
If you have a child who has been recognised as gifted and who you want to nominate for the Academic Talent Development Program, please complete the Expression of Interest form attached and email to: Sonja van Aswegen at LJBC
