Lake
Joondalup Baptist College English classes attempt to extend and
challenge students in all facets of their use of language.
Students study language, how it varies according to audience and
context and how meaning is produced. We ask students to think
about how they make meaning in a range of different contexts and
using a variety of texts so that our students establish a wide and
rich foundation in language from which to explore communication,
culture and ways of thinking. In addition to this, students are
encouraged to use the latest technology in their learning
experience and thus be better prepared for tertiary studies and
employment.
A
highly experienced staff embrace a student-centered approach to
the delivery of English and encourage students to be independent
learners and proactive in study habits. Our academic courses take
on an integrated approach by targeting topics and issues studied
in other learning areas. By Year 11, students are acclimatised to
the examination experience and have been equipped with the
necessary skills in writing, reading, viewing, listening and
speaking to achieve success. Our goal of assisting students to
experience success in their study of language and culture
underpins our teaching practices and the reason for providing all
students with clear, constructive and encouraging feedback on
their outcomes.
