“There is a theory which states that if ever anybody discovers exactly what the Universe is all about and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened”.  Douglas Adams.

By giving students a particular way of looking at the world science empowers students to be questioning, reflective and critical thinkers.

It has many methods of investigation, and at LJBC all of our courses are based on practical work, designed to help students follow their curiosity and wonder about the world around them.

The quest to construct coherent and useful scientific knowledge requires students to be creative, intellectually honest, evaluate arguments with scepticism and emphasises the importance of evidence in forming conclusions.

We recognise the importance of learning outside the laboratory and encourage fieldwork and summer camps as well as participation in science competitions.

The Science site provides overviews of our programs as well as the staff members that make up the department. In addition it provides students with upcoming events and useful web sites.

Our courses are in a state of constant revision, to reflect the latest advances in learning theory, and we take pride the number of our student who go on to science based careers where they can make a significant and positive contribution to society.
