The College has high academic standards and an enviable record in assisting academically gifted students to excel and reach their full
potential. Gifted and talented students are identified and mentored, provided with opportunities to maximise their potential and staff aim to
foster within each identified student, a love of learning and the desire to work towards fulfilling their intellectual potential. The high quality of
LJBC’s academic program and the value of the extension provided for gifted students are confirmed by the number of LJBC students who
have gone on to study medicine, physiotherapy, architecture, engineering etc. Gifted and talented students can excel at LJBC!
In the Primary school gifted students are provided with enrichment activities and accelerated courses. In the Secondary School, some
Learning Areas (eg Mathematics and English) stream Lower Secondary classes to ensure that gifted students are extended and
accelerated. College Assemblies feature recognition of academic achievement, encouraging a culture of aspiration and excellence.
The gifted and talented program at LJBC includes opportunity for Primary and Secondary students to compete in a variety of challenging
competitions such as the Tournament of Minds, the Da Vinci Competition, Night of the Notables and the Academic All Stars Tournament.
Students are encouraged to participate in a range of external academic examinations and competitions conducted by universities and
professional associations. LJBC students gifted in the creative arts have excelled, reaching the Australian finals in the Apex Teenage
Fashions Awards, while Visual Art students are often invited to exhibit in prestigious Art exhibitions. Extra curricular activities such as
chess, debating, maths and other competitions provide further enrichment and challenge for talented and gifted students.
If you have a child who has been recognised as gifted, please contact our Dean of Studies K-12 or the Head of Learning Enhancement for further information.
